Camera obscura means dark room, and its a way to project what ever is outside, inside the room. It starts off with a little hole in the wall, and the light that shines through will be flipped upside down and backwards onto the opposite wall from the hole. The image gives you a view of the surroundings outside. It started the world of photography when people used the obscura to draw the image they see onto another surface or whatever the artist used to sketch on. Then later on a lens was used to focus the light of the obscura but the image wouldn't be flipped upside down or backwards.
